In our previous post we asked if the government's official statistic of six coronavirus cases in West Bengal was accurate. That was on 27 March. Today is 2 April, and the statistics have not changed. Can we trust the government? Or are they trying to cover up the truth?

COVID19 মুসলমানদের ধর্মযুদ্ধ 

Police in have issued charges against a Muslim preacher for organising an event at a mosque in the capital that has been directly linked to a number of coronavirus cases across the country.

Around 1,750 people are believed to have attended the training course organised by Islamic missionary organisation Tablighi Jamaat তাবলীগী জামাত including more than 200 foreign nationals and visitors from many Indian states. 

This has led to the muslims being blamed for the spread of coronavirus by the Hindu population, with Corona Jihad মুসলমানদের ধম্র্মযুদ্ধ trending on Twitter. 

ভারতে করোনা তীব্রতাকে এক ধাক্কায় কয়েকগুন বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছে নিজামুদ্দিন দরগার গণ সংক্রমণের ঘটনা। এবার সংক্রমণের বিষয়টি নিয়ে কেন্দ্র আরও কড়া হতে চাইছে। বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থার পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছিল, দেশের করোনা ছড়িয়ে পড়া রোধ করতে এখন কেবলমাত্র বিপুল সংখ্যায় টেস্টিং করা ছাড়া আর কোনও উপায় নেই। আর সেই টেস্টিংয়ের জন্য প্রয়োজন কিট।

কিন্তু ততবেশি কিট না থাকায় আপাতত অত্যন্ত স্পর্শকাতর এলাকা চিহ্নিত করে সরকার এগতে চাইছে। তাই আপাতত দেশে ২২টি করোনা হটস্পট চিহ্নিত করেছে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার। সেই এলাকাগুলিকে বিশেষ নজরদারিতে রাখা হবে। হটস্পটের তিন কিলোমিটার এলাকার মধ্যে সকলের করোনা পরীক্ষা করা হবে। যাতে স্থানীয় স্তরে এই রোগ ছড়িয়ে পড়তে না পারে, তাই এই ব্যবস্থা করতে চাইছে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার।

এদিকে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, নিজামুদ্দিন জমায়েতে ৯৬০ জন বিদেশীও এসেছিলেন। তাঁদের চিহ্নিত করে তাঁদের ভিসা বাতিল করছে কেন্দ্র। ১৯৪৬ সালের বিদেশী আইন মোতাবেক এঁদের বিরুদ্ধে মামলাও রুজু করা হচ্ছে।

COVID19 in the Slums ঘিঁচি ঘিঁচি বস্তি

There are reports of cases of coronavirus being reported in the Tikiapara slum. The virus spreads easily and quickly amongst people living in close confinement, and West Bengal must prepare itself for a rise in COVID19 deaths.

The stars of Bollywood and Bengali cinema are well known throughout India, and live in luxury.

Many have been posting on their social media like Twitter and Instagram photos of themselves in isolation, and wearing clinical masks. 

Bollywood star Sunny Leone has been posting from isolation in her home in Los Angeles, California and has even started an online chat show to entertain people who are in self-isolation or in quarantine.

All from Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt to Ayushmann Khurrana have picked up their favourite hobbies as all shoots and film releases stand cancelled to stem the spread the of Covid-19.

But the images they post of themselves in their luxury homes are in stark contrast with the images the world sees of unemployed Indian workers walking hundreds of miles across India to reach their villages, or crowded into slums, or self-isolating in treetops.      

But what the world outside India is seeing on their televisions is images of poor, homeless Indians self-isolating in trees. Villagers in West Bengal do not have space in their homes to self-isolate, and so have taken to trees to sleep there. No wonder that Prime Minister Modi মোদি has apologised to the nation's poor. But an apology will not help them, or keep them healthy.
